Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 27, 2026

1. Introduction

1.1 Who we are

PubRescue ("we", "us", "our") operates pubrescue.com, an online service that converts Microsoft Publisher (.pub) files to PDF, Word, and related deliverables, including automated quality-check reports.

1.2 What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, share, and delete information when you visit pubrescue.com or use our file conversion tools. It applies to all visitors and users of the Service.

1.3 Contact

For privacy-related questions or requests, contact us at [email protected].

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Files you upload

When you use PubRescue, you may submit:

  • .pub files for conversion
  • Converted output files (for example, PDF or Word documents)
  • Automated quality-check deliverables described in Section 2.1.1

Purpose. We process uploaded files solely to perform the conversion and quality-check deliverables you request. We do not use file contents for marketing profiling, sale to third parties, or training artificial intelligence or machine learning models.

Automated processing. Files are parsed and converted by automated systems. We do not have humans review your file contents except where we are legally required to do so (for example, in response to a valid law-enforcement request).

Your responsibility. You should not upload unlawful content or content you do not have the right to process. See our Terms of Service.

2.1.1 Health check / quality reports (derivative data)

When you request a conversion or a health report, we may automatically generate derivative data from the same parse used for conversion. This may include:

  • Per-page thumbnail images
  • Page, image, and text-block counts
  • Embedded font names and layout warnings
  • Missing-font suggestions and related quality notes

This derivative data:

  • Is generated only to provide the conversion and quality-check deliverables you requested
  • Is not sold or used for advertising targeting or user profiling
  • Is deleted within 24 hours together with your source and output files (see Section 4)
  • May contain personal information if your .pub file includes names, addresses, or other identifying details — you are responsible for not uploading unlawful or unnecessarily sensitive content

2.2 Automatically collected information

When you access our website, we may automatically collect:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Pages visited and timestamps
  • Referring URL
  • Conversion-related statistics (for example, file count, error count, and total upload size)

We use this information to operate the Service, prevent abuse, maintain security, and understand aggregated usage patterns.

2.3 Information you provide voluntarily

We may collect information you choose to provide, such as:

  • Email address (if you contact us or, in a future version, request email delivery of results)
  • Messages submitted through our contact form or to [email protected] or [email protected]

2.4 Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies as described in Section 5.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

3.1 Provide file conversion services

To receive, convert, and deliver your files and related outputs within the limits of our free tier (currently up to 100 MB per file and 20 conversions per IP address per day).

3.2 Generate health check and quality reports

To produce automated quality-check outputs described in Section 2.1.1. This is part of delivering the Service you requested — not separate "content analysis" for unrelated purposes.

3.3 Improve our service

We may use aggregated, anonymized statistics (for example, total conversions or error rates) to improve reliability and performance. We do not use your file contents for this purpose.

3.4 Serve advertisements

We display advertisements through Google AdSense and related Google advertising technologies. Ad partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. See Sections 5 and 6.

3.5 Prevent abuse and ensure security

Including enforcing rate limits, detecting malicious activity, and protecting our infrastructure.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

4.1 Uploaded and converted files

  • Automatic deletion: Uploaded files, converted outputs, and derivative quality-check data (Section 2.1.1) are automatically deleted within 24 hours of upload.
  • Immediate deletion: On the conversion results page, you may delete your files immediately using the "Delete my files now" control.
  • No long-term backups: After deletion, we do not retain copies of your file contents or derivative quality-check data.

4.2 Server logs

Server logs (including IP address and user agent) are retained for up to 180 days, then permanently deleted.

4.3 Contact and support messages

Messages you send us are retained until your inquiry is resolved, for a maximum of 12 months, unless a longer period is required by law.

5. Cookies

5.1 Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the Service to function, for example:

  • Session identification
  • Conversion job tracking
  • Security and abuse prevention

Legal basis (where applicable): Legitimate interest and/or performance of the service you request.

5.2 Analytics cookies (if enabled)

We may use Google Analytics or similar tools to collect anonymized or pseudonymized usage statistics (for example, page views and general traffic patterns).

Legal basis (where applicable): Consent in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland; legitimate interest or consent in other regions, depending on local law and your choices.

5.3 Advertising cookies

Google AdSense and its partners may use cookies to:

  • Deliver advertisements on our site
  • Limit how often you see an ad
  • Measure ad performance
  • Serve personalized ads based on your browsing activity on this and other sites

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings:
https://adssettings.google.com/

Legal basis (where applicable): Consent in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland; disclosure and applicable local requirements elsewhere.

5.4 How to manage cookies

You can control cookies through:

  • Your browser settings — most browsers let you block or delete cookies
  • Our cookie preference center — for visitors in regions where consent is required, we use a Google-certified Consent Management Platform (CMP) (such as Google Funding Choices or Cookiebot) to collect and record your cookie choices before non-essential cookies are set

If you disable certain cookies, some features of the Service may not work correctly.

6. Third-Party Services

6.1 Google AdSense

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.

  • How Google uses cookies in advertising: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
  • How Google uses information from sites that use their services: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to pubrescue.com and/or other sites on the Internet.

6.2 Google Analytics (if used)

If enabled, Google Analytics helps us understand website traffic in anonymized or aggregated form. Google's processing is subject to Google's terms and, where applicable, data processing terms between us and Google.

6.3 Cloud infrastructure providers

We use reputable cloud and hosting providers (which may include services such as Cloudflare, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud Platform) to process and temporarily store files on servers used to operate the Service. Data is processed in regions selected for service delivery and may involve cross-border transfers as described in Section 10.

7. Data Sharing

7.1 We do not sell your personal information

We do not sell personal information to third parties.

7.2 When we share information

We may share information only:

  • With service providers that help us operate the Service (hosting, security, analytics, advertising), under contractual obligations to protect your data
  • With law enforcement or regulators when we believe disclosure is required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request
  • To protect rights and safety of PubRescue, our users, or others

7.3 File contents

Your file contents are not shared with third parties for their independent use. They are processed only as necessary to provide the conversion and quality-check deliverables you request.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights including:

  • Access — request a copy of personal information we hold about you
  • Correction — request correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion — request deletion of personal information, subject to legal exceptions
  • Objection — object to certain processing activities
  • Restriction — request restriction of processing in certain circumstances
  • Portability — receive personal information you provided in a structured, commonly used format, where applicable
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior lawful processing)

California residents (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell personal information. You may have additional rights regarding access, deletion, and non-discrimination. To exercise rights, contact [email protected].

How to exercise your rights: Email [email protected] with your request. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

Response time: We aim to respond within 30 days, or within the timeframe required by applicable law.

9. Children's Privacy

PubRescue is not directed at children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the European Economic Area, where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact [email protected] and we will take steps to delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

Our servers and service providers may be located in countries other than your own. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we implement appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law (for example, standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms).

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including:

  • HTTPS encryption in transit
  • Encrypted storage at rest for temporarily stored files
  • Access controls and monitoring on production systems

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You use the Service at your own risk and should avoid uploading highly sensitive information unless necessary.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the updated policy on this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
